The department of Community Medicine is one of the important Para-clinical department of the govt. Medical College Anantnag. The department has shown its zeal in various domains including field and research. Community Medicine is the branch of Medicine with a concept of provide health care to all of the community as it is the basic right of the community. "A system of delivery of comprehensive health care to the people in order to improve the health of community." Community Medicine is the only specialty which provides a wide array of all the required skills to manage any health-related emergency situation like Disaster Management, Outbreak Investigations, Food Poisoning, establishing standards of health care delivery and most importantly in an ethical way. Community Medicine requires integration of several specialties of medicine and allied sciences concerned with epidemiology, biostatistics, nutrition, health administration and planning, demography, maternal and childe health, family welfare, environment, sanitation, control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, prevention of accidents, disabilities, investigation and management of epidemics and health education. Domains: Urban Health Training Center Brakpora. Rural Health Training Center Sagam. Animal Bite Clinic (Anti Rabies Clinic) with ARV and RIG facility. Immunization clinic at MCCH Associated Hospital Sherbagh. Public Health Laboratory (environmental hazard testing) Undergraduate MBBS teaching and training, postgraduate teaching and training of DNB scholars, teaching and training activities of Nursing and Paramedical students. Field based teaching and training, surveys, Outreach Medical Camps, Capacity building of various health staff in National Health Programs. Research methodology (teaching of DNB scholars/faculty). Development and execution of health promotion, education and behavior change communication strategies.

Use epidemiology as a scientific tool to make rational decisions relevant to community and individual patient intervention.
Department of Community Medicine is dedicated and channelized for fostering health care of the people in general and community of South Kashmir in particular with innovative preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health centre practice.
Analyze the health status of the community. Evaluate the health resources, services and systems of care within the community. Assess attitudes towards community health services and issues. Identify priorities, establish goals and determine courses of action to improve the health status of the community. Establish an epidemiologic baseline for measuring improvement over time.
