The Department of Pharmacology Government Medical College, Anantnag was established in 2019 and has been involved in education of health care Professionals including undergraduates (MBBS), postgraduates (DNB), B.sc nursing along with other paramedical courses. Academic excellence, research and providing services to improve community health have been in the forefront. The Department takes pride in its discipline and organized approach to all activities.

1. The vision of Department of Pharmacology is to become a recognized and renowned unit in the field of pharmacology and therapeutics to emerge as a center of excellence on the points of teaching research and providing holistic medical education. 2. To build up a dedicated Pharmacovigilance center for accessing and reporting the adverse drug reaction. 3. To set up Materiovigilance programme to improve patient safety by monitoring adverse events related to medical devices and thereby reducing the risk associated with use of medical devices. 4. To set up a computer assisted learning Laboratory in order to facilitate e-learning of animal experiments and practical demonstrations. 5. To set up Prescription Auditing to improve the quality of prescriptions. 6. To set up the Antimicrobial Stewardship programme to improve the safe and appropriate use of antimicrobials.
To impart the understanding of the pharmacological basis of therapeutics, so as to enable the future doctors to prescribe rationally and make sound decisions supported by evidence based medicine To promote a learning and research environment that embraces inquiry and a spirit of innovation, so as to empower the health professionals to adopt a patient centered and evidence based approach to pharmacotherapy with the ultimate goal of improving human health. The department of pharmacology aims to fulfil its mission by employing various innovative teaching learning methods along at the same time retaining the best of traditional methods of learning. The department is well equipped with Computer Lab with Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) software as an alternative to animal experiments. This in accordance with the regulations on the subject which require that the use of animals must be minimized in UG teaching. By using CAL, the students can see the real time effects of the drugs on various body systems at the click of a button without the need for performing animal experiments which can cause much avoidable pain and distress to the animals. The Clinical Skill Laboratories provides all resources for students to conduct new assessment skills which helps in building up competence and confidence and enhance learning in clinical practice setting. The college has a Pharmacology Museum which displays informative and wonderfully arranged drug display boards that showcase the latest allopathic and herbal formulations.
