The department of Anesthesiology, Critical care & Pain medicine is one of the essential clinical departments of GMC Anantnag, Kashmir. The department at present has 05 Faculty Members headed by Dr Anjum Shamim ( Head of the department ) the department has one professor (Dr Imtiyaz Ahmad Naqash) two associate professor ( Dr Anjum Shamim and Dr Malik Zafar Iqbal)the department has 4 senior residents besides other technical staff which includes Anesthesia technicians, nursing aids and sanitary attendants. The department has seven operation theatres at MMABM AH GMC Anantnag providing anesthesia services to patients belonging to General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT and Ophthalmology. One operation theatre is available 24X7 for emergency services. Besides this there are two operation theatres at M&CCH at Sherbagh which is an associated hospital of GMC Anantnag. These operation theatres are dedicated for gynecology & obstetrical surgeries. All the operation theatres are equipped with state of art anesthesia workstations with both basic mandatory and invasive monitoring facilities. The department also runs an outpatient Pre-anesthesia clinic (PAC clinic) between 9AM to 5PM where all patients planned for elective surgeries are pre-operatively evaluated before surgery and cleared for anesthesia and surgery after proper optimization. The department is in the process of starting a Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) where all surgical patients requiring critical care shall be managed. The department also plans to run a pain clinic in near future where patients with chronic and intractable pain shall be managed using different management techniques. The department is involved in the teaching of undergraduate students. Following approval by National Board of Examinations (NBE), 08 post graduate students have been allotted to the department this year for undergoing DNB courses in the specialty of Anesthesiology.

• To establish separate full fledged SICU for management of critically sick surgical patients. • Expansion of infrastructure and manpower for optimal functioning of the department. • Renovation of operation theatres to modular theatres. • Establishment of pain clinic for management of patients with chronic and intractable pain. • Establishment of simulation labs for developing high standards of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and paramedical students. • Procurement of all essential equipment required for research for smooth and safe patient care management. • Develop a robust research program, securing external funding and publications. • Expand anesthesia services to meet growing patient needs and demands. • Improve departmental efficiency and productivity through process optimization and technology integration.
